ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Mike Pruitt has served on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors for less than two years. On Tuesday, he announced he is running for Congress.

Pruitt, who represents the Scottsville District, is the fourth person to throw his hat into the ring for Virginia’s 5th Congressional District. He faces Paul Riley in the race for the Democratic nomination. Republican incumbent John McGuire faces his predecessor, Bob Good, for the GOP nod.

After eight years in the Navy, Pruitt moved to Charlottesville to attend the University of Virginia School of Law. He now works as a civil rights attorney.

Pruitt says America is at a turning point, with what he calls the gap between working people and billionaires the widest in a century, and that working people aren’t helpless but angry. His goals include making the 5th Congressional District a safe place to live with quality health care and a secure retirement.
