CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A person who suffered a shoulder injury while hiking up Old Rag Mountain was rescued by helicopter on Wednesday afternoon, the Virginia State Police announced.

Med-flight 1, a joint effort between the VSP and the Chesterfield County Fire and EMS Department, was notified of the hiker in distress at approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, and made the 80-nautical mile trip from its base in Chesterfield to conduct the successful hoist rescue, its fourth this year and second from Old Rag.

The Med-flight 1 staff of VSP First Sergeant Jeffrey Weber, Chesterfield Flight Paramedic Chris Orr, and Chesterfield Firefighter Michael Burnett were able to extract the hike and fly the injured person to EMS crews waiting at the mountain’s base.
