CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Albemarle County’s Board of Supervisors returned from their brief July break for their only meeting of the month, covering a wide range of topics that impact local policy, safety, and development. Abby Stumpf, Director of Communications, highlighted the board’s recognition of Colonel Eric Haas of the National Ground Intelligence Center, who is departing for Fort Bragg.

“This is a moment to recognize and appreciate his work that he’s done locally with NGIC,” said Stumpf, citing his strong community partnerships.

A major topic was the comprehensive plan update, known as AC44, which sets a long-term vision for the county. This week’s focus was on implementation. “They’ve mapped out over 200 actions over 9 chapters,” said Stumpf, noting that today’s session aimed to address how those ideas will become reality. The board will finalize and adopt the full plan this fall after a public hearing.

The board also held a public hearing on a spot blight declaration for a severely deteriorated property.

“The structure has to show it’s open to the elements, it’s unsafe, and it’s detrimental to the local neighbors,” Stumpf explained.

Additionally, members reviewed a proposed ordinance to regulate commercial solar development and battery storage, ensuring projects meet performance standards such as height and noise limits.
