CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – With just over a week remaining in the regular season, the Valley Baseball League has made numerous changes to the Charlottesville Tom Sox upcoming schedule. According to a Tom Sox release:
Wednesday’s July 16 scheduled game against the New Market Rebels has been cancelled and will not be made up. Instead, the Tom Sox will travel to Harrisonburg and resume the postponed contest from Saturday, July 12. The game will pick up in the top of the second inning with no score.
On Thursday, July 17, the Tom Sox will host the Culpeper Cavaliers in a doubleheader. Game one will be the regularly scheduled nine-inning game and first pitch is set for 5 p.m. Game two is the makeup game from Wednesday, July 9, and will be a seven-inning game that starts approximately 30 minutes after game one ends.
On Friday, July 18, Charlottesville hosts yet another doubleheader, this time against the Covington Lumberjacks. Just like Thursday’s doubleheader, game one will be the regularly scheduled nine-inning game and first pitch is set for 5 p.m. Game two is the makeup game from Saturday, June 14, which was postponed again on Friday, July 11, as part of a doubleheader. It will be a seven-inning game that starts approximately 30 minutes after game one ends.
On Tuesday, July 22, the ‘Sox will make up another game against the Culpeper Cavaliers, this time in Culpeper. This game was originally supposed to be played on May 30 as Opening Day, but was then postponed to June 23, where it was postponed again due to heat. It will be a nine-inning game and start at 7 p.m. from Culpeper County High School.
The Tom Sox scheduled game against the Woodstock River Bandits on Wednesday, July 23, has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Instead, Charlottesville will make up the other game from the July 11 doubleheader against the Covington Lumberjacks. It will be a nine-inning game, and first pitch is set for 7 p.m. from CHO Airport Field at Charlottesville High School.
July 23 is the final day of the Valley League regular season, and the playoffs begin the following day on Thursday, July 24.
The Tom Sox enter Wednesday game 16-14, 3rd in the Valley League South Division, 5.5 games out of 1st place and 1.5 games behind 2nd place Staunton.
