CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) Five people, including two children, were injured in a Fourth of July night shooting in the city and Charlottesville police believe multiple shooters were involved in the incident.
At approximately 11:23 p.m. Friday, Charlottesville Police responded to reports of multiple gunshot victims on the 700 block of Orangedale Ave. The victims included a 52-year-old female, an 18-year-old female, a 17-year-old male, an 11-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, according to a statement from the department. All five were in stable condition as of Saturday morning.
“Due to heavy foot and vehicle traffic, emergency medical units were initially unable to access the scene,” according to a CPD release. “Officers and medics worked together to transport the victims on foot and in patrol vehicles, applying pressure to their wounds until additional EMS personnel arrived.”
Police shutdown the road to investigate, and CPD’s Criminal Investigations Division and Forensics Unit initial work indicates there were multiple shooters.
Social media videos posted Friday night showed dozens of police cars and ambulances assembled on Bailey Road, leading up to Orangedale Ave.
Officers will be in the area today conducting a search for any additional evidence, according to the release, and anyone with video footage or information related to this incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000.
