Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) Star Virginia Swimmer Gretchen Walsh has amassed several impressive accolades over the course of her stellar career, including 10 gold medals in International Competition at the Senior Level.  Walsh netted four at the 2024 Paris Olympics. 

Now, she has a chance to add an ESPY to her trophy case. 

Walsh’s name appeared alongside three other nominees in the Best College Athlete of the Year in the Women’s Sports Category. 

She joins midfielder Kate Faase of the 2024 Title Winning UNC Women’s Soccer Team, star of the 2024 Pittsburgh Women’s Volleyball Team Olivia Babcock that finished runner up in the NCAA Tournament, and dynamic guard Juju Watkins, future WNBA star and a key piece of the 2024-25 Big Ten Champion USC Trojans that fell in this year’s Elite 8 to the UCONN Huskies.

The Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards is ESPN’s yearly award show for the sports moments and athletes of the year.  The network has distributed the awards since 1993. 

The show will be broadcast on ESPN from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California on July 16th, 2025.
