CHARLOTTSVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Spotty storms will require us to be weather-aware all weekend, but especially overnight Friday into early Saturday morning with a flood watch in effect from 6 this evening until 2am Saturday. The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage late this afternoon through this evening, some dumping as much as 1-to-3 inches of rain in an hour or two and possibly training over some areas. Training storms may produce as much as 4-to-5 inches of rainfall over those isolated areas.
Heavy rainfall in a short period of time combining with already saturated soils means that creeks and streams may rapidly rise out of their banks along with the potential for flash flooding in urban areas. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
