CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A man convicted of brandishing a firearm at a city employee will serve more than 5 years.

It was September 16, 2024, when Toreke Barbour brandished the weapon on the Downtown Mall.

Barbour was convicted of possession of a firearm by a conviction felon, concealing a weapon, brandishing a firearm, and two counts of violation of probation. The sentence was 15 years, with nine years and three months suspended, leaving an active sentence to serve of five years and three months

“The prosecution of firearm-related offenses continues to be of the highest priority for the Charlottesville Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Joe Platania at the Charlottesville Circuit hearing.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Nicholas Kalagian.
