SHENANDOAH, VA (Rocktown Now) — Shenandoah National Park will be hosting basic outdoor skills courses once a month from June until October. 

This course will teach participants what the best items are to take on outdoor adventures and how to best use them in a survival situation.  

Participants will learn about survival skills such as: 

  • Water purification 
  • How to navigate with and without a compass 
  • How to build an emergency fire 
  • How to determine the amount of daylight left 
  • Basic first aid 

Classes are offered on June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12 and October 10. Ticket prices are $175 per person. Reservations are required with the full payment due at booking. 

The minimum age to register is 12 years old. Children 17 and under must have an adult present. 

Available dates listed are limited to 10 participants per class course. 

Andy Nichols, a Shenandoah Mountain Guide, leads this course meant for nature lovers, adventurers, and others who want to gain more knowledge and experience in outdoor safety and adventure.
