RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Commission for Historical Statues in the United States Capitol will in Richmond in a couple of weeks to approve the statue of Barbara Johns as one of Virginia’s two in the Statuary Hall Collection. The commission will meet June 18 at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture on Arther Ashe Boulevard in Richmond where they’ll review photographs of the completed statue created by sculpture Steven Weitzman. The bronze statue is being constructed in a foundry in Chester, PA and will head to the Weitzman Studio in Brentwood, MD for photographs. After the statue has been given the final approval from this Commission, then the Joint Committee on the Library, and finally the Architect of the Capitol, it will be installed in the United States Capitol hopefully by the end of the year.
