CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): In the wake of their run to the NCAA National championship, three members of the Virginia Men’s Golf team successfully qualified for the 125th US Open at Oakmont Country Club beginning June 12th.
Ben James 4 under during the course of 36 holes in Summit, N.J at the Canoe Brook Country Club. That was good for a fourth-place finish amongst the qualifiers, allowing James to head to the second US Open he has played in across his career. This will be his eighth PGA championship.
Bryan Lee earned his spot finishing tied for third with Mark Leishman at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. His mark of 3-under 139 earned him his first ever start on the PGA tour.
Also making the cut at the ONEFlight Myrtle Beach Classic, his ever professional start, was George Duangmanee. He and fellow former Hoo Denny McCarthy will join Lee and James at Oakmont in nine days time.
The Virginia Men’s Golf team finished runner-up to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in their first ever NCAA Championship appearance last week in Carlsbad, California.
