AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Staunton man has been arrested on six counts of computer solicitation of a child.
Christopher K. Hibbs, 39, was arrested on April 24, 2025. His arrest follows an extensive investigation that began over a year ago after a student approached their School Resource Deputy regarding inappropriate social media messages.
An investigation revealed contact via social media and emails led deputies were able to identify Hibbs, who was taken into custody without incident.
“This case is a powerful reminder of the value of the relationships that our School Resource Deputies build with students.” said Sheriff Donald Smith in a press release. “Because a student felt safe enough to come forward, we were able to intervene and prevent further harm. I encourage all parents to take the time to speak with their children about social media use and the potential dangers that exist online.”
