BARBOURSVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Starting this coming Saturday morning, VDOT plans to close Route 33 in Orange County at the railroad bridge between Route 20 (Constitution Highway) north and Route 20 South at 3am. Work will be done to install pipes under the bridge and the closure is necessary due to tight and rocky working conditions at the site. The work, which is scheduled to be completed by 5 Monday morning, is part of the new roundabout project at 33 and 20.
Message boards are up informing drivers of the coming detour, using Governor Barbour Street. The detours are:
- Eastbound U.S. 33 drivers who wish to continue east on U.S. 33 or travel south on Route 20 should take a slight right on Governor Barbour Street ahead of the closure and follow it to Route 20 south.
- Westbound U.S. 33 drivers who wish to continue west on U.S. 33 or travel north on Route 20 should turn south on Route 20 ahead of the closure, west on Governor Barbour Street, east on U.S. 33, and north on Route 20.
