Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): UVA Track and Field finished the ACC Indoor championships in style with a second-place finish in Louisville, Kentucky. It was a valiant effort from both the men’s and women’s teams. The Women finished fourth, while the men finished second as a team to the Virginia Tech Hokies. Despite the Hokies winning out, the Virginia Men saw to the best program finish in eight years at the ACC Championships.
Four more individual finishes on the podium added a flourish to an excellent third day of competition. Gary Martin, one gold medal under his belt already in the meet, triumphed once again, this time in the 3000 meters, with a meet-record 7:36.69. Margot Appleton, yet another Wahoo Cross Country star, earned gold in the women’s mile and bronze in the 3,000 meters. Finally, Wes Porter’s last-minute charge in the men’s mile was good enough to power himself onto the podium in third, with a time of 4:02.78.
Next up will be the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Bech next Saturday and Sunday, March 14th and 15th.
