RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Debris removal necessitated at Claytor Lake State Park in Pulaski County by Hurricane Helene is complete. The US Army Corps of Engineers managed the operation in partnership with FEMA, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, and Friends of Claytor Lake… and they’ve demobilized the operations center.

The state DCR says debris was collected using modular barges, tugboats, excavators and a 40-cubic yard roll-off container. It was then sorted into categories: green waste, construction material, general trash and hazardous materials and then transported to a designated dump site for disposal.

The boat ramps are reopened, but due to the damage by the large equipment, the boat ramps and parking lots will need repair. This will result in temporary closures to be announced at a later date.
