CHARLOTTESVILLE (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — The Virginia High School League says impending weather forecasts of snow and ice across various areas throughout the Commonwealth for Wednesday, February 19, and Thursday, February 20, could necessitate adjustments to next week’s state gymnastics, swim/dive, and wrestling championships. VHSL staff is currently monitoring weather patterns from the National Weather Service and preparing contingency plans to ensure the state championships are held. Any adjustments to the state event schedule are made with the safety of VHSL competitors, coaches, officials, tournament management team, fans, and media covering the championships in mind. An announcement will come no later than noon on Tuesday, February 18.
“Any decision requires a tremendous amount of coordination between League staff and the venue directors,” said VHSL Executive Director Billy Haun. “We appreciate our venue’s willingness and flexibility to work with us to host our championships.”
