CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA-(CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Virginia Men’s Basketball team responded to the pressure of what Governor Glenn Youngkin declared “Tony Bennett Day” with a resounding 75-61 win over ACC rival Georgia Tech in front of one of the largest crowds of the year. Fans piled into JPJ in anticipation of seeing a celebration to honor former Head Coach Tony Bennett and the Wahoos did not disappoint. They got started early and kept the foot on the gas throughout the game, having one of their best shooting performances of the season. The Hoos were led by Isaac McNeely who scored 20 points and Dai Dai Ames who contributed 18 in the win. Virginia was an impressive 49 % from the field and 40% from three, looking more like the Bennett teams of old. Of course, Coach Bennett was honored during a halftime ceremony, and his son Eli actually got to dress for the game and was able to play in the last minute of the contest. Listen below to Coach Sanchez’s postgame comments on the WINA and the Virginia Sports Network:
The Hoos will next face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Saturday at 2p.m.
