CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW/UVATODAY) – Ian Baucom, Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Virginia, has been named the next president of Middlebury College in Vermont, the college announced Wednesday. Baucom will step down from his role as UVA’s chief academic officer in March, concluding more than 11 years of leadership at the university.

Baucom, who joined UVA in 2014 as Dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, was promoted to provost three years ago. Reflecting on his time in Charlottesville, he stated, “Our lives have been blessed by being here in Charlottesville… But at the same time, I am also counting the days. I can’t wait to get to Middlebury and get going.”

On social media, Ryan called the announcement “bittersweet,” writing, “Ian leaves a lasting impact on Grounds, as both the former Dean of Arts and Sciences and as Provost. Ian, thanks for everything, best of luck, and know we will always consider you a Hoo.”
