CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The day after his former team won the national championship, Ohio State University defensive end Mitchell Melton has signed to play his last season of eligibility at the University of Virginia. Melton moves closer to his Silver Spring, MD home where he was a 4-star prospect linebacker out of Good Counsel High School. He started his collegiate career at linebacker and missed both the 2021 and 2022 seasons with a torn ACL. The 6’4″, 260 pounder played defensive end this past season where he has 12 tackles and 2 quarterback sacks this past season as a part-time player and 15 tackles and 3 sacks in the past 2 seasons.

Melton entered the portal January 5 but continued with the Buckeyes through the CFP and played a few snaps in Monday night’s championship game. He didn’t tally any stats. He comes to UVA as a couple of players would likely start over him at OSU, and a couple more have come in through the portal. Mitchell committed to UVA right after the game and signed Tuesday morning.
