CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The National Weather Service has us under a cold weather advisory through Thursday morning at 10am, and Accuweather’s Jeff Nordeen says we’re going to see frigid temperatures tonight at around 11-degrees. He says high pressure is situated in the central part of the country, and we’re on the northern periphery with winds coming out of the north. That means cold Canadian air pumping in, and according to the National Weather Service, frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible, and make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly, and do not use generators or grills inside.
