PALMYRA, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – James True, Fluvanna County’s Director of Emergency Services, was arrested on Friday, January 10, 2025, on seven counts of sexual battery and two counts of assault and battery, according to Fluvanna County Attorney Dan Whitten.

The misdemeanor charges stem from reports filed by two county employees with the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office. The crimes are alleged to have occurred between October 2023 and July 2024. According to Whitten, both employees completed criminal complaints and participated in probable cause hearings before a magistrate. True turned himself in to authorities and was taken into custody without incident. He is being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail and is scheduled for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Whitten says no complaints have been filed by citizens served by the Department of Emergency Services, and the allegations are not believed to extend beyond the department. Following the initial charge, the County Administrator placed True on administrative leave and initiated an internal investigation.

Fluvanna County Attorney Dan Whitten said, “The County of Fluvanna cares deeply about its employees and the citizens and visitors it serves. County Administration is dedicated to upholding its code of conduct and its internal policies as well as supporting the criminal justice system’s adjudication of these allegations.”

According to the Fluvanna County website, Eric Dahl, County Administrator, is serving as Acting Director of Emergency Services.
