Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): Mental health expert and producer of the podcast Voices for Mental Health Candace Schoner has released scientific evidence regarding the benefits of physical touch and hugging to a person’s mental health.  In advance of National Hugging Day on January 21st, Schoner has released lists of the physical and mental health benefits of both.  Regarding physical health, hugging and touch lowers blood pressure, improves heart health, and even boosts the immune system through hormonal regulation.  On the mental health side, benefits include reduced stress, improved mood, and enhanced self-esteem.   Schoner does also make a point of mentioning some tips before reaching out to others, namely, always make sure to ask first, usually with someone you trust.
