Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): Perfect Game USA released its 2025 Preseason Poll for Division 1 college baseball on Monday. The top 5 teams PGUSA chose will be of particular interest to Virginia Baseball fans, as the Hoos find themselves as the third best team in the country, behind the 2024 College World Series runner-up Texas A&M Aggies at #1, and a potentially resurgent LSU Tigers at #2. Last season’s champions Tennesse sit a #5 in the bunch, just behind the #4 Georgia Bulldogs. Clemson, Duke, and Florida State all made the top 10 to make the ACC the best represented conference in the poll. Virginia is unique relating to the squads on in top 10, in that they lost only one of their core playoff contributors to the MLB Draft last season in shortstop Griff O’Ferrall. The majority of the other squads had at least one high profile departure in the early rounds of the draft, like outfielder Charlie Condon of Georgia, second baseman Christian Moore of Tennessee, along with outfielder James Tibbs III AND third baseman Cam Smith, both of Florida State, who went one directly after the other in the draft. Most of the squads in the top 25 will take on Virginia in 2025, and the Hoos are looking ready for any challenge. First pitch of the 2025 season will come from Ponce, Puerto Rico against the Michigan Wolverines, on Valentines Day at 2pm.
