CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Starting January 1, 2025, Virginia’s minimum wage will increase from $12.00 to $12.41 per hour, giving workers a small boost to their paychecks in the new year. The adjustment is part of an annual process outlined in the Virginia Minimum Wage Act. The new rate was calculated using the most recent Consumer Price Index data, which showed a 3.4% increase for 2023. The increase will stay in effect until the next adjustment is calculated in January 2026.
Employers across the state have to follow the updated minimum wage rate for any workers covered by the Virginia Minimum Wage Act. The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry has already sent notifications to business groups and offers resources for employers, including an optional workplace notice.
