RICHMOND, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Triple-A expects Sunday to be the biggest travel day of the holiday season, and State Police are going with their annual message of driving safely over holidays. State Police’s Matt Demlein urges if you’re going to drink, have a plan. Whether it’s calling a friend, having a designated driver, calling a cab or ride share… do that. Even if you have one drink, don’t drive because buzzed driving is drunk driving. Toward that effort, Virginia State Police and localities are currently in the middle of the holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, with enforcement efforts designed to discourage driving while intoxicated.
Demlein urges you to buckle up and don’t drive distracted… focus on the road, not your phone, radio, or passengers. As of December 20, 810 people have died on Virginia’s roadways and State Police want to freeze at that number.
