Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has announced his bid for reelection, emphasizing his commitment to public safety, economic growth, and voter integrity. Speaking on Morning News, Miyares reflected on his tenure, highlighting successes in reducing crime and fostering economic prosperity.

“Being the Attorney General of Virginia, I view myself as the people’s protector,” Miyares said. “When we took office, the Virginia murder rate was at a 20-year high. Violent crime was at unacceptable levels. Addiction deaths were at numbers we’d never seen before, and we rolled up our sleeves.” Miyares credited initiatives like Operation Ceasefire for significant reductions in crime, reporting a 30% drop in murder rates and a 25% decrease in addiction deaths.

Miyares also noted Virginia’s economic turnaround. “When we took office, Virginia was 38th in the country in job growth… Now, we’re 4th in the country,” he said, citing $75 billion in recent investments and a record-high labor participation rate.

As Miyares seeks another term, he emphasized his vision of a “common-sense state” where public safety and economic opportunity enable residents to live their best lives. “Our mission is always to protect the innocent and make sure they’re able to go live their best life,” he stated.
