STANARDSVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The dam at Greene Mountain Lake is under the threat of failure.

Greene County issued a level 2 emergency for potential failure at 3:30 Thursday afternoon. There is not an immediate threat to safety, but could rapidly change.

As of 3:30 p.m. December 5, 2024, the dam at Greene Mountain Lake is at a level 2 emergency for potential failure. There is not an immediate threat to safety, but that
could change rapidly. All residents downstream need to make preparations in the event that emergency evacuations become necessary. It’s imperative you follow media outlets, our social media pages, and the county website (https://greenecountyva.gov) for further updates and instructions.
