Charlottesville, VA (cvillerightnow.com): Despite ending their season in heartbreak, two veteran members of the UVA Field Hockey team were recognized for their outstanding sporting contributions yesterday with spots on the All-South Region First Team. Alongside several rival players from Duke and UNC, senior defender Jans Croon and grad-student midfielder Suze Leemans, represented Charlottesville on the first team, while the Hoos were also well-represented on the second team by Mia Abello, Daniela Mendez-Trendler, and Meghan Hengerer. Croon and Leemans were first and third respectively in minutes played for the Hoos. Leemans scored seven goals from the midfield while assisting two, playing in all 19 games of the season. Croon meanwhile was the anchor of the backline, helping UVA keep a stellar defensive record while chipping in with four goals and four assists. The flurry of postseason award announcements will continue in the coming weeks, next up with be the announcement of the regional players of the year on December the 12th.
