Gloria Schroeder Huston, age 93, died November 26, 2024 at The Laurels in Charlottesville, VA. She was born December 13, 1930, in Bay City, MI. She was one of four children of The Reverend Martin C. Schroeder and Grace Daniels Schroeder. Her brother, Martin Schroeder, and sister, Grace Schroeder Strohschein, are deceased. Her surviving brother, Russell Schroeder, lives in Milwaukee, WI. Gloria graduated from Bay City Central High School and attended Bay City Junior College and Louisiana State University.
In 1950, Gloria married Robert Frank Huston (Bob) in Bay City, MI. He was from Stamford, TX and worked for the Dow Chemical Company for many years and finally for BASF Corporation. They lived in Freeport and Lake Jackson, TX; Baton Rouge, LA; Newport News, VA; and finally Charlottesville, VA. They were happily married for 74 years.
Gloria and Bob loved to travel, and after Bob retired they visited many places, often with the Washington & Lee Traveler group. They made two trips by air around the world.
Gloria served on the board of the Community Concert Association in Baton Rouge; organized the Home Delivered Meals in Lake Jackson; served on the church council in Lake Jackson and Charlottesville; taught Sunday school in all locations; was president of the Westminster Organ Concert Series in Charlottesville; and was on the board of the Charlottesville Symphony. She worked as a sales person at Smith’s of Bermuda on the downtown mall, Monticello Gift Shop, Consignment House, and Gold Violin, all in Charlottesville. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist. Gloria was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Charlottesville.
Gloria is survived by her husband, her children, Gary Huston (Mary Ellen) of Pensacola, FL, Paul Huston (Sandra) of New Orleans, LA, and Carol Craig (Stewart) of Charlottesville, her brother, Russell Schroeder (Nancy) of Milwaukee, WI, seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
In place of flowers, contributions could be made to Christ Episcopal Church, Charlottesville, or Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville.
