Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): The UVA Women’s Volleyball Team, over the weekend, had the distinct honor of adding to the Hoos’ points total in the Commonwealth Clash two weekends in a row.  Last week, the usual suspects in what has been a historic year for the Hoos, Lauryn Bowie, Kate Dean, and Elayna Duprey, to name a few, powered UVA to a home victory against the visiting Virginia Tech Hokies in five sets on the home court at Memorial Gymnasium.  The Hokies were given a shot at revenge by the conference schedule, as they welcomed the Hoos to Cassell Coliseum on Friday afternoon.  However, the Hoos proved quickly that they were up for the challenge. Bowie and the Hoos took the lead early in set one, jetting out to 5-1 before the Hokies stormed back to knot the set up at 11.  VT put together a late run, but Kate Dean and Brooklyn Borum chimed in with timely defense to hold them at bay and win set one 25-21.  The Hoos set the tone with two aces in the next set, but the Hokies managed to get close the lead late on, with the score 20-18.  UVA won five of the last six points of the set to go up two sets to none with a 25-19 victory.  Should they win set three, the Hoos had a chance at their eighth sweep of the year, that would be the most in a season since 2008.  With something in the air, UVA powered up and took a 10-point lead at 11-1 at the midpoint in the third set.   The Hokies woke up at that point of the set, putting 11 points on the board, but the Hoos were able to engineer another seven-point lead to bring the score to 19-12.  A Kate Johnson ace on match-point finished off the sweep with authority, bringing the score to 25-13.  Up next for the Hoos are #6 Stanford and Cal on November 14th at Memorial Gymnasium.  Stanford is 19-4 coming off a home victory against #16 Georgia Tech, and California is 11-15 on the back of a home win against Clemson.
