NEW YORK NY (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia’s junior U.S. Senator Tim Kaine made a self-deprecating appearance this past weekend on Saturday Night Live as a foil for a game show skit. The skit involved a fake game show called “What’s That Name: Election Edition”. After contestants answering questions correctly about Doug Emhoff and Jack Smith, with the contestant getting the name right talking about the 2024 election being the most important in history and important for democracy, Kaine came out saying he was Hilary Clinton’s running mate in what at the time “you said was the most important election in history”, and asked the contestants who he was. None could answer correctly, and never did.
Kaine is running for re-election against Republican challenger Hung Cao, and Cao released the following statement on the appearance:
“Many of my supporters are saying I should sue NBC for giving free airtime to my opponent, Tim Kaine, right before the election. I disagree. I was barnstorming 12 towns and cities across Virginia yesterday talking about how we’re going to secure our border and lower our prices, while Tim was being a human punchline in New York City. I want to thank NBC and Tim Kaine for making the contrast so clear about the stakes on Tuesday.”
