Edward Holick Wagamon, 67, passed away on October 28, 2024, at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond, VA. He had many health struggles during his lifetime, including fighting bone cancer for 38 years.
Edward, “Ed” or “Wag” to his friends, was born on July 31, 1957, to Charles and Marion Wagamon in Odessa, Texas. His quick wit and intelligence, which his loved ones knew him for, developed at an early age, as evidenced by his earning 150 on a school IQ test—the highest in his junior high class. He was also immensely creative and talented, appearing in productions of The King and I and The Music Man at Huntsville High School. He also played trombone in the school band.
After graduating high school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a minor in history, at Sam Houston State University. During his time there he joined ROTC and achieved the rank of 2nd lieutenant before graduating in 1979.
He continued his career in the army, joining the Armor division, and eventually moved to Fort Irwin near Barstow, California. He worked his way up to Captain before receiving a medical discharge due to his cancer in 1988. When Edward was well enough to work again, he continued serving his country as an intelligence analyst for many years before retiring in 2017.
During his time in Barstow, Edward met the love of his life, Kathryn (Kathy) Beaman. The two were married in 1985. After receiving his cancer diagnosis one year after he and Kathy married, the couple moved to the East Coast so Edward could receive treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. A few years later, they had two children, Mary (Mary-Kate) Wagamon, born in 1990, and Thomas Wagamon, born in 1993. In 1995, the family moved to Barboursville, VA, where Edward and Kathy lived for almost 30 years.
A lifelong history buff, Edward enjoyed building model planes and ships, and painting miniatures. He also spent a lot of his free time playing computer and tabletop games, especially Dungeons & Dragons. He even created his own tabletop board game, Tabletop Aces, which he frequently ran at game stores and conventions. An avid reader and wonderful storyteller, Edward always went out of his way to entertain those around him. He passed on his love of D&D and storytelling to his children and was an incredible first Dungeon Master for them and many of their friends.
Edward was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles (Chad) Wagamon, Jr. He is survived by his parents, wife, children, daughter-in-law, Anna Garcia, as well as his siblings Christina (Tina) Felder, John (Jack) Wagamon, Teresa Foster-Wagamon, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
