Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – CBS Business Analyst Jill Schlesinger recently shared expert advice on navigating open enrollment and Medicare changes, addressing the challenges and potential pitfalls for individuals and families. Schlesinger noted that when enrollment opens, employees typically receive a notification from work with extensive information to review, often presented in overwhelming, dense print, making the process difficult to navigate.

Schlesinger emphasized the importance of carefully reviewing plan options, especially regarding existing healthcare providers. “ Write down your doctors and write down the prescription drugs that you and your family members or the covered family members are taking,” she advised, noting that individuals should confirm coverage to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket costs.

On Medicare updates, Schlesinger explained that this year’s changes include new caps on out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare Part D, though there may be adjustments in co-pays. She recommended using Medicare’s online resources to help understand the updates, given their potential complexity.
