CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Virginia senior Gretchen Walsh has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Swimmer of the Week after her performance against No. 3 Florida. The ACC announced the honors on Tuesday, October 22.

Walsh set an American record in the 50-meter backstroke during the leadoff leg of the 200-meter Medley Relay with a time of 25.37 seconds, surpassing the previous mark of 25.54 seconds set by teammate Claire Curzan at the 2022 Short Course World Championships.

She also recorded American record times in the 100-meter Backstroke (54.89) and the 50-meter Freestyle (23.10).

During a time trial for the 100-meter Individual Medley, Walsh posted a time of 55.98 seconds, breaking both the American record set earlier in the day by UVA alumna Kate Douglass and the world record of 56.51, set in 2017.

The Cavaliers will compete in their next meet at North Carolina on Friday, November 1.
