CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) –Virginians are stepping up to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina and Tennessee. Several local businesses and organizations are hosting collection drives, offering opportunities for residents to contribute much-needed supplies to aid in the recovery.

Local Collection Drives

  • Stonewall Harley-Davidson: Located at 385 Waugh Blvd in Orange, Stonewall Harley-Davidson is leading a collection drive to fill a 50-foot trailer with relief supplies for hurricane victims. They are seeking basic cleaning supplies, water, and non-perishable food. Donations must be dropped off by Friday afternoon to ensure timely delivery to North Carolina and Tennessee.
  • Autumn Trails Veterinary Center: Autumn Trails Veterinary Center is hosting a supply drive through Monday, October 14 to help both two-legged and four-legged victims of the hurricane. Drop off supplies at their office, located at 2407 Hydraulic Road, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week. They are accepting:
    • Dog/cat food and supplies
    • Baby food, diapers, and supplies
    • Elder care supplies
    • Toiletries, paper towels, disposable plates, cups, utensils, bottled water, drinks, Ensure
    • Non-perishable foods, towels, and blankets
      Note: No adult clothing is being accepted at this time.
  • A&N Diesel Repair: Located at 196 Poindexter Road in Louisa, A&N Diesel Repair is also collecting essential items through Wednesday, October 2, until 6 p.m.
  • Sam’s Club, 970 Hilton Heights Rd: Toy Lift founder Tom Powell has a truck trailer collecting supplies until 9pm; need water, ready-to-eat meals, baby products, etc., also looking for volunteers to run the truck
  • Top Parking Lot at Scottsville Shopping Center: Scottsville Task Force 17 Capt. Jack Maxwell “Carolina Strong” collection Saturday, October 5 thru Saturday, October 19; non-perishable food, elderly care supplies, toiletries, baby supplies/food, socks adults/kids, drinking water, Ensure/protein, rubbing alcohol, paper towels, paper plates, paper cups, tissues, blankets, cleaning supplies, pet food/supplies, wash cloths, hygiene supplies, feminine hygiene products, boxes for packing; for updates, visit @svilletf17 on social media.

How Else to Help

In addition to the local collection drives, financial donations are one of the most effective ways to provide immediate relief:

  • United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County: Contributions can be made online at unitedwayabc.org to support local recovery efforts in North Carolina.
  • American Red Cross: Donations can be made via redcross.org, providing direct relief to those affected by the hurricane.
