FREDERICKSBURG, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A University of Mary Washington Center For Leadership and Media Studies poll shows a 2025 Governor’s race Director Stephen Farnsworth describes as “a nail biter”. Presumptive Democratic nominee Abigail Spanberger ties with either presumptive Republican nominee, Lt. Governor Winsome Sears or State Attorney General Jason Miyares, among likely voters. Farnsworth says the poll reflects voters don’t have a great idea who these people are right now. He says even though Sears and Miyares are statewide officeholders, the Governor in Virginia sucks in all the air when it comes to name recognition and policies. Meanwhile, Spanberger represents a district around the Fredericksburg area, so has work to do to become known throughout the Commonwealth. Sears has announced her desire for the Republican nomination, while Miyares has not but is expected to.
