CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Local basketball fans were finally given relief from waiting with bated breath to learn what the biggest games of the season will look like in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Wahoo faithful in Charlottesville now know the first conference opponents of the season for both the men’s and women’s squads in the ACC. The men start conference play on December 7th against the SMU Mustangs, with a 7 PM tip-off. The women will open conference play at John Paul Jones Arena on December 8th against the Boston College Eagles, with a 2 PM tip-off.
The remainder of the schedule was announced during an ACC Network special on Tuesday evening.
After SMU, the Hoos’ road schedule will feature games against California and Stanford at the beginning of January. Other notable road games include a trip to Blacksburg on February 15th, Chapel Hill on February 22nd, and Syracuse on March 8th. The hottest tickets at John Paul Jones Arena this season are expected to be the matchups against NC State on New Year’s Eve, a grudge match with Notre Dame on January 25th as the Hoos look to avenge last year’s defeat, Virginia Tech on February 1st, and Duke on February 17th.
The women’s team will return to the JPJ court after New Year’s Eve for a battle with Wake Forest. January will feature two must-win home games against Georgia Tech on the 23rd and Louisville on the 26th. In February, the Hoos will face two of the most dangerous teams in the ACC at home: Florida State on the 6th and Virginia Tech on the 9th. On the road, their schedule opens with a bang as they face Notre Dame on December 29th. January will be a particularly difficult stretch, with games against a 2024 Final Four team, NC State, on January 19th, and a showdown with Virginia Tech at Castle Coliseum on January 16th. In February, another tough test awaits when they visit Syracuse on the 2nd. The final and most anticipated road game of the regular season will be on March 2nd, when the Hoos face the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
