Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – During a recent City Council meeting, initial discussions focused on the development of the fiscal year 2026 budget. City Councilor Michael Payne noted, “It was just a first, you know, conversation starter… there will be a lot more to come in terms of actual details and actual budget numbers.”

Another key issue was the approval of a funding agreement for the redevelopment of Carlton Mobile Home Park. Payne emphasized the importance of ensuring that “nobody is displaced and follows the resident-involved model they had at Southwood.” The project, a collaboration between Habitat for Humanity, Piedmont Housing Alliance, and the City of Charlottesville, aims to build at least 180 units, with 70% classified as affordable housing.

Payne also highlighted the significance of the joint meeting between the City Council and Albemarle County’s Board of Supervisors, marking the first such meeting in several years.
