CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Some of Virginia politicians once again taking to social media to condemn another assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump as he runs again for another term.
Governor Youngkin posts on X, “Yet another incredibly scary moment today. We’re grateful President Trump is safe, and again we’re inspired by his courage and strength.”
Lt. Governor Winsome Sears posted, “While we do not know all the details, we do know that gunshots were fired near President Trump and that he is safe. For that we can give God thanks.”
State Attorney General Jason Miyares posted, “I’m relieved President Trump is safe. Political violence is cowardly and a shameful betrayal of our American values.”
Democratic Senator Tim Kaine posts on X “I’m sickened by violence in our politics and relieved that Donald Trump is safe.”
Congressman Bob Good made no statement but reposted an X post by Republican Senator Mike Lee responding to a post from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis that the state is doing its own investigation, with Lee stating they can’t trust the feds, but he trusts DeSantis.
The man who beat Good in the Republican 5th District primary, John McGuire, posts “We are praying for Trump and our country.The suspect in the second assassination attempt on President Donald Trump has been caught. ”
7th District Democrat Abigail Spanberger posts “Reports of another attempted assassination of former President Trump are deeply troubling. I’m grateful to the Secret Service & local law enforcement who apprehended the suspect and stopped a horrific scene from unfolding. Political violence can never be tolerated in America.”
Senator Mark Warner’s response didn’t come until Monday morning. He posted on social media, “Relieved to know that President Trump is unhurt after an assassination attempt yesterday, and that the suspect is in custody, thanks to the quick response of law enforcement. Political violence is never, ever acceptable, and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
