CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Today is 9/11, and the Albemarle and Charlottesville fire departments are co-sponsoring a 9/11 Stair Climb at JPJ Saturday. The climb is Saturday from 8:30am-to-noon and local firefighters, their families, and the public are invited to join a tribute honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.Everyone is urged to get there by about 8.

“This stair climb is more than just a physical challenge; it is a tribute to the courage and commitment of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001,” said Dan Eggleston, Chief of Albemarle County Fire Rescue. “By coming together as a community, we ensure their bravery, along with the memories of all who perished that day, are forever honored and never forgotten.”

“It’s a humbling experience to climb with fellow first responders and put ourselves in the shoes of those who risked their lives that day to preserve the lives of others. We invite our friends, family, and community to join us in honoring the legacy of our fallen heroes,” said Michael Thomas, Chief of the Charlottesville Fire Department.
