Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): Labor Day weekend, a holiday with plenty of burned rubber from car travelers hitting the road for short vacations, has come to an end. In its wake, AAA has released welcome numbers for average gas prices throughout the state and the nation, showing a small but sweeping downward trend. Here are the trends relevant to you in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area!
The National average, currently at $3.30, is down six cents from last week, 17 cents from last month, and 51 cents from last year. Virginia, after Labor Day, saw a five cent drop from last week, with the average statewide now at $3.17. That figure is 15 cents from last month, and 41 cents from last year. Lastly, and locally, Charlottesville’s current average is $3.21, that’s down six cents from Labor Day weekend, 10 from last month, and 36 cents from last year.
This trend, according to Morgan Dean, the Mid-Atlantic spokesperson for AAA, will likely continue, thanks to a weak and disorganized hurricane season.
