CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Turnout in Charlottesville was even lighter than previous similar elections in 2017 and 2021… mainly because there was only one contested race. Nearly 90% of Charlottesville’s vote in the new 11th Senate District went to Democrat Creigh Deeds over Republican Phil Hamilton in a race overall that Deeds won by more than 31 points.

Newcomer Natalie Oschrin won seats with incumbents Michael Payne and Lloyd Snook to join JuanDiego Wade and Brian Pinkston on City Council.

Although all four candidates for city school board were unopposed… none have held any office previously, and they comprise the majority of the board. Shymora Cooper, Amanda Burns, Christopher Meyer, and Nicole Richardson join Lisa Larson-Torres, Emily Dooley, and Dom Morse. James Bryant, LaShundra Bryson Morsberger, Jennifer McKeever, and Sherry Kraft did not run for re-election.

Democrat Katrina Callsen… a former Albemarle School Board member… ran unopposed for the new 54th District House of Delegates seat.

And Joseph Thompson was unopposed for Soil and Water Conservation Director.

Turnout in the city was just under 34%.
