CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The recent rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Debby could significantly impact Virginia’s ongoing drought. However, it will take several days to determine if the precipitation is enough to officially end the extreme drought conditions affecting parts of the state.
That’s according to Jeff Ishee of On The Farm Radio, who says the U.S. Drought Monitor is currently gathering data on various factors, including rainfall amounts, stream levels, topsoil moisture, and groundwater levels.
The next drought status report is expected to be published on Thursday, August 15th, providing a clearer picture of whether the drought has subsided.
The data collection process will continue through Tuesday, August 13th, as officials assess the storm’s impact on the region’s water resources.
