Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – State Senator John McGuire, who recently secured the Republican nomination for the 5th District congressional seat in Virginia, joined WINA Morning News to discuss his candidacy and vision for the state. McGuire, a Navy SEAL veteran, expressed his dedication to continuing his public service at the congressional level.

McGuire highlighted his motivation for running, mentioning the challenges faced by Virginians. “I really think our country is in big trouble. Our children have less freedom than we had growing up,” he stated. McGuire also emphasized his commitment to security, pointing out the dangers of the ongoing border crisis, saying, “We’ve got to secure that border.”

When asked about his favorite part of the country, McGuire reflected on the opportunities available to all Americans: “This is a country where…if you work hard, you can achieve just about anything…The land of opportunity, the freedom, is my favorite thing about the country.”

As McGuire prepares for the November 5th election, he remains focused on uniting his constituency and tackling the pressing issues of safety, the economy, and government accountability.
