Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A significant weather event is impacting Charlottesville and the surrounding areas as Tropical Rainstorm Debbie arrives, bringing the threat of heavy rain and flash flooding. According to meteorologist Jeff Nordeen, we can expect light rain in the morning today, but the main band of rainfall is expected to intensify later this afternoon and into the evening.
“There could be significant risk of flash flooding, rapidly rising water and roads flooded, “Nordeen warned. He noted that the area could see two to six inches of rainfall, depending on how long the storm lingers.
Winds are also a concern, with gusts potentially reaching 40 to 60 mph. With wind that strong Nordeen is advising to watch for falling debris when on the roads.
The storm is expected to clear out by midday Friday, with a sunny forecast for the weekend. Residents are urged to stay off the roads during the worst of the storm and to take precautions against flooding and debris.
