ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA – The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors has appointed Andy Herrick as Interim County Attorney following the retirement of County Attorney Steve Rosenberg. The decision was made during the board meeting on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Herrick will officially assume the position on September 1, 2024.

“We are pleased to appoint Andy Herrick as our Interim County Attorney,” said Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Chair Jim Andrews. “Mr. Herrick brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record through his years of dedicated service to Albemarle County. We are confident in his ability to take on this leadership role with continued integrity and excellence.”

As Interim County Attorney, Mr. Herrick will be responsible for providing legal counsel to the Board of Supervisors, representing the County in legal matters, and overseeing the operations of the County Attorney’s Office.

“I am looking forward to working closely with Mr. Herrick as he steps into this position,” added County Executive Jeff Richardson. “His experience and understanding of our county’s needs will be invaluable as we continue to serve our community.”

Mr. Herrick has over 29 years of experience, including 25 years in public service within local government. He currently serves as the Deputy County Attorney for Albemarle County, where he has primarily worked with the Community Development, Finance, and Social Services departments. Additionally, he holds the position of President-Elect of the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia.

Previously, Mr. Herrick served as the Assistant County Attorney for James City County and worked in private practice with the Williamsburg City Attorney. He earned his undergraduate degree, law degree, and Master of Business Administration from the College of William & Mary.
