Blacksburg, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): Stop Animal Exploitation Now (SAEN), a nonprofit that looks for evidence of animal handling violations in U.S. research facilities, has made an internal communication originating from officials working for Virginia Tech public. This communication to a federal funding agency from the university, saw confessions of negligence that led to the deaths of 15 bats in their research labs.
SAEN has filed an Official Complaint with the U.S. Dept. Of Agriculture, alleging unqualified personnel, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and animal handling violations, all federal crimes.
SAEN Research Analyst Stacey Ellison said “Virginia Tech deserves the maximum penalty, because of their continued negligence, more animals have died.”
