Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash in Madison County. The crash occurred on Friday (Oct. 6), at 9:47 p.m. at the intersection of Route 230 (Orange Road) and Route 29 (South Seminole Trail).
A 2006 Cadillac DTS was traveling west on Route 230 when it failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed over Route 29, and crashed straight into an embankment before it collided with several trees.
The driver of the Cadillac, Robert R. McCloud Jr., 44, of Orange, VA, suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
A passenger in the Cadillac, Steve L. Gallihugh, 56, of Madison, VA, died while being transported to the hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash.
Charges are pending as the crash remains under investigation with consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office.
