CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Sam Mummau hit his first home run of the season in the tenth inning to propel the Charlottesville Tom Sox to a 7-5 win over the Purcellville Cannons in game one of the Valley Baseball League Championship series. The ‘Sox came from behind late in the eighth and persevered in front of a loud crowd at Willie T. Barnett Field to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Mummau came on the in the tenth with the ghost runner on third and blasted a full-count pitch over the left field wall.
The Sox try to wrap the series up tonight at 7 in Purcellville, and if Game 3 is needed… it’s 7 o’clock Wednesday night at Charlottesville High School. If they get another win, it will be the Sox’ fourth league championship.
