CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Charlottesville Police say the suspect in an attempted abduction last night north of the UVa Grounds is in custody. Charlottesville Police Chief Michael Kochis said they’d been looking for 40-year old James Robert Allen since the victim, a UVa student, in the 800 block of Cabell Avenue said a man she did not know tried to abduct her around 9:40pm. Kochis would not go into how, but said detectives were able to identify a suspect and get the word out by around 11pm. He was apprehended shortly after noon Thursday in Louisa County.

CPD was called to the scene for what was called “a disorder” and found numerous vehicles and trees were struck. That’s where they found the victim and were quickly able to put out warrants for abduction and strangulation. The reason the Suffolk resident was in Charlottesville, and the motive for the abduction are still under investigation.

Police say Allen was apprehended with help from multiple law enforcement agencies.
